Light sedation, about 20 minutes, home the same day. Here's the whole thing.‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Hi Sarah,

The gastric balloon is an easier procedure than most people picture.

You come in and you're given light sedation. Dr Loy then places the soft, empty balloon in your stomach using a thin camera, and fills it with sterile saline.

The empty balloon goes in with a thin camera, then it is filled in the stomach
Dr John Loy

Dr John Loy

Head of Bariatrics, Auralia

It takes about 20 minutes, and you go home the same day. No hospital stay.

It is a soft balloon in your stomach and stays there for up to 12 months.

You eat less because you feel full sooner.

You're not left to figure it out on your own. The dietitian and the rest of the team are here to support your journey the whole way through.

At the end, Dr Loy takes the balloon out the same way.

At the end, the balloon is emptied and taken out the same way
